Horn-reflector installation, autumn 1974

The horn becomes airborne. This is the usual method of raising a horn: you connect the cables to lifting eyes behind the reflector, use a block-and-tackle to hold the horn horizontal, once the horn is high enough the B&T is let out allowing the horn to become vertical. Riggers have to be careful that the antenna is high enough for feed-horn flange to clear the ground - these guys scuffed the flange against the pavement. Antenna will be raised by winch in back of 3/4-ton (like a rock!) flatbed chained to tower leg on left. A guide sheave is chained to right-hand leg visible just beyond horn aperture. The tag line is hooked to the green pick-up just in front, out of frame. Cardboard cartons on the ground next to the north fence are 12'-6 1/4" WC-281 waveguide sections.
